چکیده

We report the optical properties of three dioxythiophene-based conjugated polymers: poly~3,4ethylenedioxythiophene! poly~3,4-propylenedioxythiophene!, and poly„3,4-~2,2-dimethylpropylenedioxy!thiophene.... Films of ca. 200 nm thickness of these polymers were prepared on indium-tin-oxide coated glass substrates using a potentiostatic electropolymerization method. The reflectance and transmittance of the samples were measured over a broad energy range from the midinfrared through the ultraviolet. To extract the optical constants of the polymers, we modeled all of the layers of this multilayer thin-film structure using a Drude-Lorentz model. From the parameters obtained, we compute the optical constants, such as absorption coefficient and frequency-dependent conductivity. These functions yield information about the electronic structure of the neutral and doped polymers, which show evidence for polaron states at low doping and bipolarons at the maximum doping level. We observed doping-dependent changes in the electronic structure of these polymers as well as doping-induced infrared-active vibrational modes.

Subgap absorption and quantum lattice ̄uctuation in polymers: effects of the ground-state degeneracy

By using a simple model of soliton±antisoliton pairs to simulate the quantum lattice ̄uctuations in one-dimensional conjugated polymers, the subgap optical absorption results from the transitions between the lowest unoccupied and the highest occupied levels off the conduction and valence bands, respectively, in the soliton±antisoliton excitations. There is no gap in the absorption induced by th...

Ground state properties of ferromagnetic metal / conjugated polymer interfaces

We theoretically investigate the ground state properties of ferromagnetic metal/conjugated polymer interfaces. The work is partially motivated by recent experiments in which injection of spin polarized electrons from ferro-magnetic contacts into thin films of conjugated polymers was reported. We use a one-dimensional nondegenerate Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) Hamiltonian to describe the conjugate...

Computational study on geometric and electronic properties of 3.6-carbazole based conjugated polymers

In this work, we present firstly a study based on the calculation of the local spin densities of radical cations, which is known as a good measure of reactivity for coupling reactions, to obtain a theoretical basis for the one-step formation of poly(3.6-carbazole) and derivatives. Then we detail a DFT theoretical study of the geometric and electronic properties of oligomers based on carbazole a...

An Analytical Equation of State for Molten Polymers

An analytical equation of state (EOS) developed by Ihm-Song-Mason (ISM) has been applied tocalculate some thermophysical properties of molten polymers including Poly (1-octene) (PO), Poly (vinylmethyl ether) (PVME), Poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC), and Poly (styrene) (PS). Three temperature-dependentparameters of the ISM EOS have been determined based on the alternative scaling constants, dispersiv...
